This brought tears to my eyes …

Jamie and me sharing afternoon tea ...
Jamie and me sharing afternoon tea …

Whilst I was housesitting I browsed through the hundreds of books on the shelves in nearly every room and came across this poem, which I had not read before. It made me cry because it reminded me of my beloved Jamie-dog who, sadly, I had to have put to sleep (due to kidney failure) in 2009.

    Four-feet

I have done mostly what men do,
And pushed it out of my mind;
But I can`t forget, if I wanted to,
Four-feet trotting behind.

Day after day, the whole day through
Wherever my road inclined –
Four-feet said `I am coming with you!`
And trotted along behind.

Now I must go by some other round –
which I shall never find –
Somewhere that does not carry the sound
Of Four-feet trotting behind.

    Rudyard Kipling – 1865-1936

Gulp!!!

So we are back home for a couple of weeks – then off to London for a while (have to look for exhibitions I want to see there). I will be posting and catching up with you all soon and telling you of our adventures.

  1. Beautiful poem–I had forgotten that one by Kipling. Thanks for resurrecting it! Also, I really liked the picture. What a beautiful patio garden to share with your buddy on a sunny day–you look so content! Good memories!

  2. Today, I too, when moving my books around came across the Rudyard Kipling book “Just So Stories” and stopped to read a section:”This is the picture of the Cat that Walked by Himself, walking his wild lone through the Wet Wild Woods and waving his wild tail….”(the b/w sketch is by RK and show the black cat walking in woods with trees on both sides and a long white path ahead)…PS: I’m looking forward to hearing about more of your adventures.

  3. Just checking in to see if everything’s all right. Haven’t seen you around on the blogosphere for a while now and wanted to let you know I was thinking about you. Come back to us if you can!

    1. How kind of you to be concerned about me. I am absolutely fine – just been up to my ears with housesitting, teaching art and finishing a long-winded commission. Tomorrow I am off to the West Country (Cornwall) for a week to see old friends and have a real `girlie` time whilst my dear husband heads for Spain for a week`s golf. I have not forgotten you all and will come back asap. Anne
